When many members of an extended family get together, it is called a family reunion. Reunions may occasionally take place on a recurring basis, such as the same day each year. A normal family gathering will include a dinner, some entertainment, and conversation. The older guests are typically grandparents, parents, siblings, or first cousins, whereas the younger guests may be second, third, or fourth cousins. Regular family gatherings may also be sponsored by groups or associations of relatives united by a more distant common ancestor or a shared last name.
